Duplicate Inspector for Windows Privacy Policy

When you select a folder, Duplicate Inspector may read file names, paths, sizes, modification times, file types, and file content. File content is read to calculate hashes for exact-match detection and to generate supported image or GIF previews. Video poster frames are requested from Windows Shell thumbnail providers; the app does not send media to an external thumbnail service. Optional same-filename matching compares names but does not establish that file contents are identical.

This processing is used to show scan progress, duplicate groups, previews, paths, and file details on your computer. Scan data is not uploaded to AMK.

Local interface and network behaviour

The application interface communicates with its scanner through a loopback service bound to 127.0.0.1. Loopback traffic stays on the local computer and is not a developer-controlled internet service. Core installation, scanning, review, and cleanup do not require an internet connection.

Duplicate Inspector has no account, advertising, analytics, telemetry, tracking, or automatic cloud upload. It does not sell or share scanned file information.

Information stored on the computer

Interface preferences may be stored locally. Generated video thumbnails may be cached under %LOCALAPPDATA%\DuplicateInspector\thumbnails, and diagnostic crash logs may be stored under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Duplicate Inspector\Logs. These local items may remain after uninstalling and can be removed with File Explorer when the application is closed.

File access and cleanup

Duplicate Inspector uses the ordinary Windows permissions of the signed-in user to access the folder you choose. It does not request administrator access for a normal per-user installation.

Files are never selected for cleanup without user review. Cleanup requires a selection and confirmation and requests a move to the Windows Recycle Bin. If that operation fails, the source file is left untouched. Recycle Bin contents may later be removed by you, Windows, storage tools, or other software, so the Recycle Bin must not be treated as a backup.

External actions

Open File launches the selected file in its associated Windows application. Show in Folder opens Windows File Explorer. These actions happen only when you request them.

The optional Donate action opens supportamk.com in the default browser. The app does not include file contents, paths, or scan results in that address. The website and payment provider have separate privacy practices, and donations unlock no features.
